Repairing old tech

Most are just a matter of re-capping
Recapping is the process of locating every electrolytic capacitor and replacing it.
Capacitors dry out over time and become faulty, mostly low value ones, but it is best to change the lot.

My 1978 JVC 3050.
Recapping and the addition of a Blauplunkt set top box feeding via a 75-300 ohm balun.

SANYO CTP7607 colour tv.
This TV was manufactured in the Wodonga Sanyo factory I worked in 1976.
I recapped the lot but it still had screen tearing. It was caused by low sync pulses and bad video waveform
The cause was a black coating on the pins of the VIF IC. I couldn't see it because the IC was in its socket
I filed them off and it was good again

This is the guts of the TV as it was being recapped
